Search “5-star resorts with on-site golf in Vietnam” and most of what comes back is hotels within a 10-to-30-minute drive of a course, not resorts where the golf course is actually built into the property. After playing all five courses I cover below, I count exactly four Vietnamese resorts where you can walk from your room to the first tee without a taxi: New World Hoiana Beach Resort, Banyan Tree/Angsana Lang Co, The Grand Ho Tram Strip, and Vinpearl Resort & Golf Nam Hoi An. I’ve added a fifth property at the end, honestly, because it isn’t a five-star chain, and I’d rather tell you that than pad the list.

Why “On-Site” Rules Out Most Da Nang Golf Hotels
I wrote a full guide to where to stay for a BRG Da Nang golf trip a couple of weeks ago, and the research for that piece is what pushed me to write this one. BRG Da Nang has no hotel of its own beyond a small villa cluster; the nearest full-service beach resorts, Hyatt Regency, Marriott, Sheraton, sit ten minutes up the road on Non Nuoc Beach. Montgomerie Links is the same story: a genuinely great course with zero on-property lodging.
A Golf Digest World Top 100 ranking study of Asian golf destinations makes the same point in passing, most of the region’s “golf resorts” are course-plus-nearby-hotel arrangements, not single-property stay-and-play. That distinction matters more than marketing copy admits, because it changes your actual morning: a 6:00 AM tee time means a 5:40 AM wake-up if your hotel is on-property, and something closer to 5:15 AM if you’re commuting from a beach strip ten minutes away.
I’ve played all five courses covered here, Hoiana Shores, Laguna Lang Co, The Bluffs Ho Tram, Vinpearl Nam Hoi An, and BRG Da Nang, carrying my 12-handicap around every one of them. I haven’t stayed overnight at every property below, though. The course facts come from my own rounds and from each course’s published specs; the resort facts (room counts, amenities, beach length) come from each property’s official site or a named independent source, based on their published information rather than a night I personally spent there. Rates and star classifications can change, so treat this as a starting point for your own booking research, not a locked quote.
New World Hoiana Beach Resort: Hoiana Shores Golf Club
Hoiana Shores is the strongest round I’ve played in Vietnam, a Greg Norman links design that earned the #47 spot on Golf Digest’s World Top 100 for 2025. What makes it an on-site resort rather than just a great course is New World Hoiana Beach Resort sitting directly on the property, part of the wider Hoiana Resort & Golf development on four kilometers of coastline near Hoi An. I’ve reviewed the full 18 holes, Par 71, 7,122 yards from the tips, green fee $110–$160 depending on season, caddie included, in my full Hoiana Shores review. The resort runs its own stay-and-play packages that bundle the room with a round and shared cart, which is worth checking directly if your trip is built around this one course.
My earliest tee time preference here is 6:00–6:30 AM, before the coastal wind picks up in the afternoon. Staying on-property means you can make that window without a 5:00 AM alarm, which matters more than it sounds like until you’ve done the commute version a few times.
Banyan Tree Lang Co / Angsana Lang Co: Laguna Golf Lang Co
Ninety minutes north of Da Nang, where the Truong Son Mountains drop straight into the East Sea, sits the other genuine on-site 5-star property in this list. Laguna Golf Lang Co is Sir Nick Faldo’s par-71 design, 7,069 yards, green fee $100–$150, and I’ve covered the full layout, including the island-green par-3 7th, in my Laguna Lang Co course review. The resort side is Banyan Tree Lang Co and Angsana Lang Co, two properties under the same integrated development, with the Laguna Park Golf Residences built right along the 18th green, close enough that you’ll see golfers finishing their round from your balcony.
I’d point a golfing couple toward this pairing specifically if one of them doesn’t play: the resort’s spa and three-kilometer private beach solve the “what do I do while my partner’s on the back nine” problem better than a standalone golf hotel does, and the clubhouse restaurant is a legitimate reason to linger after your round instead of rushing back to a rental car.
The Grand Ho Tram Strip: The Bluffs Ho Tram
The Bluffs is the most dramatic golf I’ve played anywhere in Southeast Asia, cliff-edge holes with the South China Sea in play on nearly every shot, and it sits inside The Grand Ho Tram Strip, a 541-room 5-star hotel and casino about two hours southeast of Ho Chi Minh City. I triple-bogeyed the third hole my first time out here; the cliff-edge tee shot on that par 4 punishes anything hit even slightly right. Full breakdown, Par 71, 7,117 yards from the tips, green fee $85–$135, is in my Bluffs Ho Tram review.
Ho Tram doesn’t get the same volume of golf traffic as the Da Nang corridor, which means tee times are easier to get and the clubhouse isn’t crowded, but it also means fewer direct flights, most visitors drive or take a coach from Ho Chi Minh City. If your trip includes a casino night as well as golf, this is the only property on this list where that’s genuinely on-site too.
Vinpearl Resort & Golf Nam Hoi An
Vinpearl Resort & Golf Nam Hoi An is the most family-friendly entry here: a 500-plus room beachfront resort about 20 minutes south of Hoi An Ancient Town, built as part of a roughly 200-hectare development with a water park alongside the golf course. The IMG Worldwide-designed course, Par 72, 7,100 yards, green fee $80–$115, is more forgiving than the links-style layouts to the north, which I noted in my Vinpearl Nam Hoi An review after my third round there finally clicked.
If you’re traveling with kids or a non-golfing partner who wants resort amenities rather than a boutique villa, this is the pairing that removes the most friction: golf, water park, and beach, all on one property, no commute for anyone.
Honorable Mention (Not Actually 5-Star): BRG Da Nang’s “The Point” Villas
I covered this property in detail in my guide to where to stay for a BRG Da Nang golf trip, and I’m including it here for the same reason: it’s genuinely on-site, a pool-villa community built directly on Truong Sa street in Hoa Hai ward, about a 15-minute walk from the BRG clubhouse, but it isn’t a branded 5-star hotel chain the way the four properties above are. I couldn’t find a star classification for it anywhere, Agoda and Booking.com both list it as private pool villas, not a rated resort. The course itself, a Jack Nicklaus design, Par 72, 7,075 yards, green fee $80–$130 with caddie, cart an extra $20, is excellent, see my full BRG Da Nang review. I’d rather tell you it’s a villa cluster near Non Nuoc Beach than stretch the truth and call it a fifth 5-star resort.
Book your tee times before your room, not after. All four on-site resorts run their own golf desks, and the earliest tee times, 6:00–6:30 AM at Hoiana and Laguna especially, sell out first during the November-to-February peak season. Lock the tee time, then match your room category to how many rounds you’re actually playing.
Dave’s Booking Strategy
For any of these four resorts, I book through Agoda or Booking.com rather than committing to a non-refundable direct rate, weather and course maintenance closures are real risks in Central Vietnam, and free cancellation matters more here than on a typical beach vacation. Check current hotel rates and stay-and-play resort packages on Agoda for Hoi An coast resorts (Hoiana and Vinpearl Nam Hoi An), or compare resort rates on Agoda for the Hue/Lang Co area if Laguna is your target course. For The Grand Ho Tram Strip specifically, compare current resort rates on Booking.com, and cross-check guest hotel reviews on TripAdvisor before booking, since the property functions as both a golf resort and a casino hotel, and room categories vary more than at the other three.
| Booking Approach | Lead Time | Cancellation Flexibility | Best Fit |
|---|---|---|---|
| Book 60+ days out via Agoda/Booking.com | Long | Usually free cancellation up to 24–48h | Peak season (Nov–Feb), any of the 4 on-site resorts |
| Book through the resort’s own stay-and-play desk | Medium to long | Package-dependent, check terms | Multi-round trips bundling green fees with the room |
| Book last-minute (under 1 week) | Short | Often non-refundable only | Off-peak/monsoon months, flexible travelers |
FAQ
What counts as a resort with on-site golf, versus a hotel just near a golf course?
On-site means the course is built into the resort’s own property, walking distance from your room, not a separate business a drive away. By that standard, only New World Hoiana Beach Resort, Banyan Tree/Angsana Lang Co, The Grand Ho Tram Strip, and Vinpearl Resort & Golf Nam Hoi An qualify among the properties I’ve covered. Hotels near Montgomerie Links or BRG Da Nang’s beach-strip neighbors are a short drive away, not on-site.
Which Vietnamese resort has the best on-site golf course?
By Golf Digest’s World Top 100 ranking, Hoiana Shores at New World Hoiana Beach Resort is the highest-rated, #47 for 2025. I’d still recommend playing more than one before deciding for yourself; Laguna Lang Co and The Bluffs Ho Tram both have passionate defenders among golfers I’ve played with.
Can I walk from my room to the first tee at these resorts?
Yes, at all four on-site 5-star properties and at BRG Da Nang’s villa cluster, the walk runs anywhere from a few minutes to about 15 minutes depending on which room category and how the property is laid out. That’s the entire point of this list versus a standard “golf hotel” a drive away.
Is BRG Da Nang’s “The Point” a 5-star resort?
Not that I could confirm. It’s a real, actively-booked pool-villa property on Truong Sa street, bookable through Agoda and Booking.com, but I found no star classification or hotel-brand affiliation for it, unlike the four resorts above. I’ve included it because it’s genuinely on-site, not because it matches the “5-star” criterion in this list’s title.
Do these resorts offer stay-and-play golf packages?
Yes, all four on-site resorts run seasonal packages bundling a room with green fees, cart, and sometimes caddie. Check current package listings directly through the resort’s golf desk or on Agoda/Booking.com for your specific travel dates, since availability and inclusions shift with season.
Dave’s Final Verdict
If waking up and walking to the first tee matters to your trip, these four resorts are the real shortlist: Hoiana Shores for the best course, Laguna Lang Co for the mountains-meet-sea setting, The Grand Ho Tram Strip if you want a casino night with your golf, and Vinpearl Nam Hoi An if you’re traveling with family. Everything else marketed as a “golf resort” along this coast is a hotel with a shuttle, which isn’t a bad option, it’s what I covered for BRG Da Nang, just a different trip than the one this article is about.
My parents left Da Nang decades before any of these resorts existed, back when this coastline was fishing villages and rice paddies, not championship fairways and casino hotels. I still find it strange, in a good way, to tee off a few kilometers from where my mother grew up and finish the round at a resort spa that didn’t exist ten years ago. That’s part of why I keep coming back to write about this specific stretch of Vietnam rather than just the golf itself.
